From the Pastor

Dear Church Family,

Greetings! We have been blessed with another great week of worship services, fellowship and mission together. Special thanks go to Rheta Ann West and Anne Shirley for singing at both of our traditional services this past Sunday!

I was blessed to be a part of the mission team that served at Delta Grace this past weekend. It was wonderful to see children, youth and adults all work together to serve the Lord and those in need. Thirty-one (31) team members split up to serve in three locations. The team also led worship on Sunday morning at Sunflower UMC. The mission team will share about their experiences at our first Sunday evening worship service in August. Thanks go to everyone who prayed, gave scholarships or donated food and items for this trip. Our team really felt the support of our church!  Thanks also go to our UMVIM team leaders, JJ Harris and Melissa Tate, for organizing and giving great leadership for this awesome trip!!

We will continue in our ABC’s of Christianity series this Sunday at our ONE Sunday service. I will preach the dreaded “X” sermon and I still am not sure what that will be. Were there xylophones in biblical times? Any suggestions would be appreciated. If you have missed any recent services, you can always listen to or watch them on our church’s Web site (www.fumcnewalbany.com) by clicking the “Watch Live” link.

I want to say a word of thanks to Rev. Greg Smith for his leadership with our Confirmands. We have both loved working with these students and we are really looking forward to this Sunday’s Confirmation Service. Our mentors have done a great job with these youth and let’s all make sure to thank those mentors for their critical work in discipling these students.

Please be here this Sunday to support these Confirmands as they make their professions of faith and join with our church family. We also need to take every opportunity that we have to all fellowship and worship together when we have that chance. Lastly, we will share Holy Communion together at this service and it will be very special to do that since all three of our services are meeting together. See you Sunday! God bless.
