From the Pastor

We were certainly blessed in our services this past Sunday. Martha Frances Monroe gifted our congregation and Seniors an incredible offertory, Mary Beth Muncie shared a beautiful song at the 8:45am service and our Chancel Choir and Embrace Praise Team were wonderful as always.

Our Junior parents and Junior class members served our Seniors and their families a wonderful breakfast for Baccalaureate Sunday and blessed each of those Seniors with a very thoughtful gift. Thank you all!

Our Children’s Choir did an excellent job at last week’s Spring Musical. Angela Spencer directed the musical again and she always does a wonderful job with our children. The program was funny, engaging and deeply spiritual.  Special thanks go to Angela Spencer, to all of our volunteers and to Sabrina Hamilton, our Director of Children’s Ministries, for her leadership. You can watch the musical on our church’s Web site (www.fumcnewalbany.com) by clicking the “Watch Live” icon.

I do want to let everyone know my schedule for the next several weeks. I will be on vacation next week so please call on Rev. Greg Smith with any pastoral needs that you have. I have purposefully held on to my vacation time for a week or two in June so we could pack for our move so I will not be in the office much until we leave. Feel free to call (662.316.8814) or email (barrymale@bellsouth.net) me for anything when I am out. My last Sunday to preach will be June 5. We will enjoy holy communion together one last time so please do your best to be present for that service. Our Bishop has begun asking pastors to step away from preaching for a week or two before a new pastor arrives so that is why I will not preach on June 12 or June 19. Rev. Tim Prather’s first Sunday will be on June 26 and please make sure to be here to welcome him and his family.

I want to say a special word of thanks to our Staff Parish Relations Committee for all of their work with the pastoral transition and to William Mills (Trustees’ chairperson) and our Trustees for all of their work in preparing the parsonage for the Prather family.

Again, please do your best to be present and to catch up on your giving as we anticipate Tim’s arrival. Stay forever in the Light; never lose sight of the Way. See you Sunday! God bless.
