Next week is Holy Week, and I am asking that each member of our church make plans to attend at least one of our services. Here’s a brief description of each:
*Wednesday, April 17—We will have a normal Wednesday night, so make reservations with the church office to come share a meal with your church family. Additionally, children’s and youth programs as well as all normal adult activities will be taking place.
*Thursday, April 18—At 7 p.m. we will gather in the sanctuary for Maundy Thursday worship. This is a service you certainly don’t want to miss, for this is the night we commemorate Jesus’ last meal with his disciples. Come receive holy communion as we remember the night Jesus was betrayed and handed over to Pilate.
*Friday, April 19—We will gather at Noon in the sanctuary to remember our Lord’s suffering. This will be a short service followed by a light lunch in the fellowship hall. It has become one of my favorite Lenten traditions.
*Saturday, April 20—You can feel the Easter joy as we come together for our annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Creekmore’s. We will begin at 10 a.m., so make sure to join the fun with your children and grandchildren!
*Sunday, April 21—Easter Day will be celebrated at all three worship services!
And yet, we miss something if we go from Palm Sunday to Easter Day without having any contact with the Holy Week services. If you can’t make it Maundy Thursday or Good Friday, set aside some quiet time on Friday to read the passion story in one of the Gospels. Pausing to reflect upon our Lord’s suffering will certainly make Easter all the sweeter once it finally comes.
This will be my family’s third Holy Week with you. We remain honored to be your pastoral family and look forward to many more years of ministry at FUMC. See you Sunday!
