The Pastor’s Pen

This is one of those times in life when everything seems to be happening all at once. And while this is sometimes chaotic, I am finding that this season has been and is becoming an incredible blessing to me and my family.

As many of you know…in recent weeks I have completed the requirements for Ordination in the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church. I traveled to Jackson and completed my interview with the Board of Ordained Ministry and from there received approval for Ordination at our Annual Conference in Jackson in June of this year. It is such a joy for me to achieve this milestone in my ministry life. To be able to close this chapter in my life will allow the opening of new ones. This is exciting indeed…

As many of you also know…in the coming weeks I will be moving into Senior leadership at a church in our Annual Conference here in Mississippi. On Monday of this week I found out where that leadership will take place as I look forward to the transition at the end of June this year. I’m proud to announce that I will be the new Senior Pastor at Johnston Chapel UMC in Summit, MS. My first Sunday there will be July 2nd, 2017.

As you can see…there is a lot happening in my ministry life and in the life of my family. We are excited indeed. Many of these happenings would not be possible if it were not for those here at First New Albany who have helped to prepare the way…without you I would not be where I am today! Thank you to all who have given the very best of themselves so that I can be the very best that I can be in service to God, the Mississippi Conference, and the local church. If you’re ever in the Summit, MS area, please stop by for a visit…

Grace and Peace,
Rev. Gregory Smith
