The Pastor’s Pen

Many thanks to all those who gave gifts. Your generosity to our family is such a shining and vibrant reflection of who and what Jesus calls each of us to be. Please know that these gifts will help us in such a powerful way as we transition to Summit and begin to invest in leading the people of Johnston’s Chapel UMC and the surrounding community of Summit/McComb, MS.

Many thanks to all those who were willing to come forward to share, and those who shared with us privately, such kind words of encouragement, remembrance, and celebration; each of you a reflection of the deep and meaningful relationship that we share. Please know that I will always hold your words in my mind, heart, and spirit as I move into a new ministry identity. Because of the time that I have spent with each of you in ministry, it has positioned me to be forever shaped by the gifts and graces that God has placed within each of you. Continue on in doing what you do and being who you are; Tim, Thomas, our church staff, our church family, our community, and the Kingdom of God need the very best of who God has created and gifted you to be…

To all those with whom I share friendship and recreation…please know that you will be missed greatly. The time that we have spent together – talking, praying, sharing coffee, sharing a meal, sharing the gift of music – has forever shaped my spirit and, in the language of a sermon that I recently preached, has smoothed my rough edges. The experiences that we have shared have given me a much clearer image of the Christ I serve and has set high the bar to which I must strive. I am eternally grateful for you. Thank you all…

And a very special thanks to Haley Yurkow. The glass etching of FUMC New Albany is a gift to which words simply will not do justice. The unique nature of such a gift speaks directly to my soul and is such a powerful expression of how one can graciously and selflessly give life to another. As I go…it will remain one of my most treasured possessions…Haley, thank you!

As we prepare to go, please know that we will forever hold this community of faith in our hearts…much love to you all…
