The Pastor’s Pen

I’m very excited about our worship services during the month of October. In our annual Fall Discipleship Series we will be addressing the question: What is a disciple of Jesus Christ? Specifically, we will be looking at five discipleship killers we face each and every day as well as talking about what are the spiritual antidotes for them that unlock a vibrant, joyful, abundant life in Christ.

I believe that God will move through our church in powerful ways during this worship series. For that reason, I’m encouraging everyone to make the commitment to attend worship EVERY Sunday in October. What does God have in store for YOU? Come and see!

Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is a very different matter than simply being a member of a church who occupies a place on the roll. A disciple is a fully-devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and I look forward to our October services and the chance to teach on this topic.

God is doing great things in our community of faith. Thomas Toole, our youth minister, noted just this past week: “In a time when most churches are dying, we are actually growing!” Thanks be to God!

We welcome Cody Cissom and Whit Freeman as new members of our congregation. When you see them, be sure to give them a proper New Albany First welcome!

I do know we have several more families discerning whether or not they would like to unite with our church. And I also know there are so many people in our community who have no house of worship in which to call home. What a gift our church will be to those seeking a church family!

As your pastor, I want you to know that I believe in you. Our congregation is warm, inviting, friendly, and will love newcomers in wonderful ways. Simply, all are welcome at our table. Who in your life needs the blessing of a community of faith in which they can center their lives? I know a great one.
