The Pastor’s Pen

Palm Sunday is here, and this weekend we have a wonderful blessing coming our way! Bishop James E. Swanson will be preaching at all three morning worship services on March 25. I promise you that between Palm Sunday and Bishop Swanson we will have a double blessing this Sunday. Make sure you bring a friend!

Indeed, having our Bishop kick-off Holy Week is an incredible honor for our congregation. However, I want to draw your attention to the danger in coming Palm Sunday for the great celebration and triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem yet missing the rest of Holy Week.

If your schedule at all permits, I encourage you to be present at our Holy Thursday and Good Friday services. These services will take us into the valley between the high emotions of Palm Sunday and Easter Day. If we don’t experience this part of the story, we run the risk of misunderstanding the great triumph of Easter morning.

Of course, life happens and our busy schedules dominate. If you can’t make our Holy Week services, take some time out of your day to simply pray and read the scriptures related to the Last Supper and Passion of our Lord. Again, this will make Easter Day so much sweeter!

Our Holy Week Schedule is as follows:
-Holy/Maundy Thursday, March 29 – 7 p.m.
-Good Friday, March 30 – Noon
-Children’s Easter Egg Hunt – March 31 – 10
a.m. @ the Creekmore’s.
-Easter Day – 8:45 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 11:00
a.m.

We are entering the holiest time of the Christian calendar. My prayer is that our hearts will be touched by the Holy Spirit as we seek a closer walk with Christ. Know that I’m thankful to be experiencing this Holy Week with you, my church family.
