I’m sure you are very aware of the damage caused along the Gulf Coast by Hurricane Michael. Know that the recovery effort is still in its early stages. The UMCOR website urges: “Affected Conferences are not yet ready to receive out-of-conference volunteers. We remind those wishing to provide assistance to please not self-deploy or donate unsolicited items. Many areas are still engaged in emergency response efforts.”
What can we do now?
- Pray for those impacted by the storm as well as those assisting in the recovery effort
- Make a donation either by check (to the church) or at umcor.com. The United Methodist Committee on Relief is a fantastic agency and 100% of your donation will be used for the intended purpose. None of it will be used for administration as those costs are funded through General Church apportionments. If you would like to donate through the church, please label your check as “hurricane relief.”
- Be ready to serve when a call is issued for groups to come and serve. If you are interested in serving on a work team, please let the church office know & your name will be placed on a list.
In other news, we are off to a great start with our stewardship campaign. However, we have many commitments from last year yet to be renewed. If you have not made your pledge for 2019, please drop by the office or call Martha Rainey. She’ll be glad to take it over the phone!
We are in such a blessed place financially. Our membership has really been faithful in this part of discipleship. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can’t wait to see what God is going to do in our community of faith over the next year!
