Dear Church Family,
We were certainly blessed with a great Sunday of worship. Special thanks go to Sabrina Hamilton and our Children’s Ministries for organizing the children for their Palm Sunday processional. Laura Ruth Welborn, Martha Frances Monroe and the Chancel choir all blessed us with wonderful selections. Our Embrace service was blessed in having Devon Blackwell perform a dance while Rev. Greg Smith and Kate Male sang “Good, Good Father”. Please visit the Embrace Facebook page to view that inspiring performance.
Last Sunday my allergies kicked in just before the 8:45am service. One of my eyes even swelled shut and I was late to the service. I want to say an incredible word of thanks to Mary Beth Muncie for leading the service and the Children’s Sermon until I could return and to Bob Monroe for being on call to share a message if I did not return to the service. It was a great testament to their faith and gifts but it was also reminder of the call on all of us to share in ministry together and to be ready to give a word about the hope that is in us (I Peter 3:15)!
I also want to say a word of thanks to Gracie Jackson (chairperson) and the Worship Committee (Rheta Ann West, Robin Lindsey, Sandra Owen, Patrice Smith, Dottie Haynie, Martha Rainey, Kathy Carter, Jennifer Beam, Swift Rogers, Cathy Owen, Joan Smith) for all of their work with the Lenten Luncheons and worship services. We were blessed by great attendance and by so many volunteers from our Sunday School classes for the luncheons as well. The Worship Committee does so much for our church family during special days of worship so please thank them when you see them.
I want to thank everyone who prayed for Sara’s trip to Brazil last week. She visited with and spoke a few times at the Methodist Church in Vila Planalto where our mission team served last year. She visited the Shade and Fresh Water Project headquarters as well and then also visited the Methodist Headquarters of Brazil.
Our Chancel Choir and youth group have a wonderful service planned for us this Thursday night and I know all of our other Holy Week services will be a blessing as well so please do your best to be present for these times of worship. People who do not attend a church are more open to an invitation to church during this week than at any other time of the year. So please prayerfully consider which of your co-workers, neighbors and friends might need an invite to one of our services.
For the last few weeks in our traditional services we have looked to the words that Christ spoke from His cross. This Sunday we will celebrate His resurrection and celebrate the very first things that He said to those to whom He appeared. See you Sunday!
In Christ, Rev. Barry Male, Jr.
