The mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the good news of God’s grace and by exemplifying Jesus’ command to love God and neighbor, thus seeking the fulfillment of God’s reign and realm in the world. The witness committee of New Albany First United Methodist Church seeks to help our church fulfill this mission as stated in the Bible and emphasized in the Discipline of the United Methodist Church.
This past year, we have held prayer walks, neighborhood outreach picnics and a Hot Chocolate outreach at the Christmas Parade to meet and engage our community. We also have has six international mission trips to take the good news around the world. We also support many missionaries and missions locally, nationally and internationally.
Our outreach mission is to reach out in love to people with spiritual, physical, and emotional needs outside of our congregation and to answer Jesus’ call to share our wealth for the betterment of all of God’s children whether they live in our community, country, or around the world.
On-going ministries in our church:
- Camp Son Shine – Vacation Bible School for at risk children in our community
- Christmas Store – outreach program for local residents who need assistance providing Christmas gifts for their children
- Operation Christmas Child – worldwide mission project to provide Christmas boxes to needy children around the world
- Good Samaritan Food Pantry – mission in our community to provide food to needy families
Global Missions: FUMC supports many global ministries in a variety of nations. We also support members and teams from our church for short term overseas mission projects in both theio U.S. and internationally.
Advance Special Report – Our church budget supports many Advance Special ministries associated with the United Methodist Church. Included are seminaries in both Africa and Russia, UMCOR, the United Methodist Children’s Home, Camp Lake Stephens, and our local Wesley Foundation (college ministries).
