Last week in this space I asked you if you would do something FOR Jesus. This week I’m asking whether or not you will agree to do something WITH Jesus. Simply, will you commit to reading your Bible every day?
I know, I know. You are a busy person! What I want you to consider is making a start. Consider reading just a chapter a day. Maybe work up to 10-15 minutes per day of Bible reading. See what that does for your soul; I think you will be impressed!
Where do you start? I’d recommend one of the Gospels, then move on to Acts, then read something from the Old Testament. The point here really is that you are reading God’s Word, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself about reading the “right thing.” Just start!
Here are a few resources I’ve found that have enhanced my own Bible reading:
The ESV Bible app for smart phones—This app is available in the app store and is a wonderful aid in reading Scripture. Not only can you read the Bible right from your smart phone, but it will read to you as well. Best of all, it’s free!
Check out the website www.evangelicalbible.com– This company sells premium Bibles from publishers such as Allen, Cambridge, and Schuyler. Their customer service is fantastic, and you will not be disappointed with any of their Bibles. Want to check one out? See Thomas or me!
Whatever you do, just read, read, read. There’s no agenda but spending time in God’s Word and seeking to be molded and shaped into who God wants us to be. A daily diet of Bible reading will do just that, and we are sure to encounter our Lord along the way!
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday!
