The Pastor’s Pen

This is the week for joy. This coming Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, we will light candle number three. It’s the pink candle, and it represents joy. The day is also known as Gaudete Sunday (taking its name from the Latin word meaning “rejoice”).

Think in terms of Philippians 4: 4-6: “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

It’s fitting that the Christmas Store was held this week. What joy! Our community of faith had the opportunity to reach many, many needy families and be a spark of holy light in a dark world. The smiles, conversations, and laughter were all such a blessing. I left wondering if I was the one truly being blessed by the Christmas Store.

But isn’t that how God’s grace works? God shows up and blesses us even when we least expect it. From the Christmas Store of this week to the Pink Candle coming this Sunday: The Lord is near. Always. Rejoice!

Advent blessings to you,
