Dear Church Family,
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who played a role in making our Vacation Bible School a great success. Sabrina Hamilton and her army of volunteers did an amazing job! It was especially heart-warming to have our VBS children sing in worship this past Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. service. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who worked to give our children a wonderful VBS experience!
Of course, when we serve we learn quickly that we are often the ones who are blessed. Sabrina relayed a story to me that was particularly meaningful. As you probably know, the VBS children were raising money last week for our church’s Christmas Store. My understanding is that children were encouraged to bring both money and toys to support this ministry.
One girl had just moved to our area after her family lost their home in a fire. She chose to offer her favorite teddy bear to the Christmas store, insisting that some other child needed it more than she did. Of course, her family was not in a good place financially, and this little girl could not be certain she would have her bear replaced with a new one.
She simply wanted to give.
I do not know if this little girl is yet a Christian, but I can tell you that even at her young age she understands generosity. More than this, she understands the concept of extravagant generosity.
Think about that term: extravagant generosity. Isn’t this what Christ did for us on the cross? Talk about extravagant generosity!
So the next time you see a need that needs met or you prepare to make a contribution to our church, will this little girl’s understanding of generosity help shape your giving? I know it will mine.
