In his book “Not a Fan,” Kyle Idleman makes an interesting observation: Jesus does not want fans. He wants followers. And what is a disciple but a fully-devoted follower of Jesus Christ?
This Sunday we begin our annual Fall Discipleship Series. Over the next seven weeks we are going to examine together what it means to be committed to Christ in a life-long journey of discipleship. We will look at topics like prayer, service, worship, and Bible reading. My hope is that we will leave church each Sunday morning with practical ways to grow our faith.
God wants us to grow. In fact, if we aren’t growing, then we are experiencing an unpleasant alternative. Are you ready to grow in your faith?
As our schools get back into the swing of things, this is a good time to reconsider the basics of our faith and life together at FUMC. Will you commit to being in worship every Sunday over the next 7 weeks? Of course, if you are out of town, you can always join us via the streaming link on our church’s website (www.fumcnewalbany.com).
God has really been blessing our church lately. We’ve had new members join, lives are being changed, worship attendance has been strong, and we are setting records in terms of our generosity. My prayer is that God will continue to bless our community of faith over these next several weeks as we examine again what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
I’ll see you Sunday, if not before!
